Outdoor Furniture Covers

When it comes to getting the right covers for your outdoor furniture it can become a real nightmare. With so many options to choose from. It can be difficult getting started.

Any piece of outdoor furniture you use on a regular basis whether is a grill, patio chair, teak deck chair, wicker, chaise lounge or any other furniture you may have, there ARE covers to fit.

Some people choose to cover them in the winter, while others cover up their furniture when not in use. Personally it would depend on how much I used my furniture. For example, I have most of my company on the weekends. So I cover them up during the week.

Another reason to use year round covers . . . is to reduce the amount of work and time to keep it clean. I remember how my next door neighbor (when I was growing up) would spend at least an hour every friday afternoon cleaning fly specks off her picnic table on the back porch.

If its not fly specks you might be cleaning off yellow-greenish colored pollen, bird droppings, dust, or myriad of who knows what else. Some might take a considerable amount of scrubbing while others can be taken care of with a quick wipe down. Or you can cover them up and not have to worry about it.

So you can watch more football.

When choosing covers for your outdoor furniture you will want to take note of how they are made to close. Meaning do they have zippers, velcro, grommets and rope, or just an elastic band.

If the cover you choose has a zipper try to find ones made of plastic to fight against the elements. You don’t want to zipper to rust out. The cover would become almost impossible to remove.

Also look for plastic snaps rather than metal.

Covers usually come in 2 general types of material . . . Vinyl and Polyester.

Polyester tends to be the more economical option. It has a softer feel to the hand, but is easy to clean.

While vinyl has a firmer feel, its the most durable option. Also easy to clean and maintain, generally comes with reinforced backing.

On thing to note then choosing the type of fabric for your cover is to ask about the type of stitching they use to reinforce corners and edged while preventing strings from hanging out.

The higher end outdoor furniture cover should come with double stitching and the lower end options usually have single stitching without reinforcement at the edges.
